New cancer grant awarded
14th June 2010
Professor Maggie Manson, Chair of Cancer Chemoprevention at Leicester University, will be carrying out the research which involves measuring molecules known as biomarkers that arise in tumours and are secreted into the blood.
"These biomarkers can be used as indicators of the disease and the levels of biomarkers can be compared in cancer patients, in healthy patients and those with pancreatitis (which can progress to cancer).” Explained Professor Manson. "By combining several biomarkers and relating them to different stages of disease and patient outcome, we aim to provide a more effective method in diagnosing pancreatic cancer and improve patient management and outcome.”
"This is very exciting research and we are delight that Hope is able to fund aspects of cancer management that will have a real impact on future sufferers" said Wendi Stevens, Hope Against Cancer Co-ordinator.
