Through research it is aimed to find out how key cancer protein (BRAF) damage leads to colorectal cancer

15th March 2008

The significance of this research is shown by statistics.  In 2005 (the latest year for which there are statistics), around 16,000 people died from colorectal cancer in the UK. BRAF is associated with approximately 25 per cent of these.

A rough estimate would indicate that in the East Midlands 280 deaths from colorectal cancer would have been associated with BRAF mutation. “ Through the Hope Foundation we aim to utilize a technique called microarray to generate a ‘gene signature’ for BRAF- induced cancers.

We are extremely grateful to receive funding from organizations like Hope Against Cancer, and really appreciate all the hard work that many people do to raise funds for our research”
