What people are saying about Hope
Stephen Barney
Dear David and Wendi,
I wanted to express in writing my thanks to all concerned for a truly memorable and unique experience - it was some experience and some privilege for me to be challenged to do something like the ride, well out of my comfort zone, both to support Hope financially and to meet the physical demands.
As you may know I run a number of projects to support a whole range of charities (both large and small), therefore I can say with good reason what you have both achieved at Hope in the last 7 years is remarkable both in terms of the fund raising delivered, the energy and commitment of so many volunteers and the work Hope finances.
The ride itself was superbly organised not least because of the selfless commitment of many people doing the unglamorous bits (Steve, Alistair, Dorothy, Helen in particular). The "professional cyclists" (Wayne and Mick in particular) were unfailingly helpful to us novices and their advice was really useful.
You have an excellent team and I feel personally enriched by the experience!
Regards,
Stephen Barney

Dear Wendi
Now the brake dust has settled on my bike and aches in my legs have subsided, I would like to express my thanks to you and your team for introducing me to and helping me through a truly wonderful experience that is the Hope Scottish Cycle Challenge.
As a complete novice to this kind of event or any major charity cycle event, I met the team on that dull Saturday morning with a great deal of apprehension but was soon put at ease by the camaraderie of both the support team and fellow cyclists which continued throughout the whole ride. The organization during the event was fantastic and a big thanks must go to Alastair, Mick, Helen, Dorothy, Pam and Rodney for their tireless effort in ensuring we were all well catered for.
I personally found the ride a real challenge both in distance and terrain and returned having conquered a number of ascents that I would have considered too hard prior to the trip, my special thanks go to David, Bob, Wayne, Graham and Mick for assisting me in getting there and back without a scratch.
Best regards,
Tim Collingwood

Whilst it is undoubtedly the case that the Government has put more money into treating cancer and that the results of treatment for some common cancers such as breast cancer have markedly improved, this improvement has only occurred as a result of fundamental research such as that supported by Hope Against Cancer.
Cancer charities such as Hope Against Cancer, therefore, have a vital role to play in improving further the outlook for patients with cancer.

Clearly we owe a huge debt of gratitude to Hope to act as a springboard for starting projects which can lead to subsequent CRUK applications… We will continue to need this support as otherwise it would be impossible to obtain the initial data from research which can lead to a credible application.
I have just read through the latest edition of the Hope Newsletter and am so impressed with the quality and content! You have all done so much and you have so many new plans—it is really extraordinary what you have achieved! I cannot tell you how grateful we all are.

I cannot emphasise enough how difficult it is to get funding to start any research project. In this regard, Hope Against Cancer is completely invaluable in providing funding where we have good ideas, some preliminary data, but clearly not enough information yet to go for a big project grant.
As a clinician, I therefore just want to emphasise how important these opportunities given to us by Hope are, both to promote cancer research in the region and to ensure that our patients really do benefit.

I am very grateful to the rapid response of Hope Against Cancer, which will allow us to pursue this development fully in a timely manner.
